*(our version of the tale Milo of Croton & the calf)
Here we share an ancient story of one man's DETERMINATION, POWER and DESIRE to be a champion!
First, we must take you back to ancient times in the city of Italy, Croton, where athletes were god like to the cheering thousands. Our story starts with a small boy called Milo. Milo was outside wrestling with the other kids in his neighbourhood. Milo's father eagerly watching whilst working in the hot sun. "THUD!!!" Milo hits the floor as the bigger kid gloats over his victory. The other kids laugh as Milo rubs the dry dusty dirt from his eyes as he awkwardly steps up. Milo's humilated as the other kids laugh and point. His father with a stern voice shouts "Milo! Come here". As he furiously looks at the cruel laughing children. "You will be stronger, this will not happen again, see this calf? Pick it up!" Milo, all shaken up, obeyed his fathers instruction. "I want you to take this calf for a walk around the city and back each day, you will grow stronger". Each morning Milo woke up and carried the calf around the city. The calf got bigger, and a few months later so did Milo.
Milo was looking out the window of his room watching the boys wrestling outside. His father walked past and said Milo go outside, wrestle. Milo hesitated. His father could see how low in confidence he was and bent down on to one knee so he could see Milo at eye level, "Milo go, your stronger than those boys". In disbelief Milo replied, "What if I lose?" His father smiled, "If you face your fears, you'll never lose". Milo jumped up, went outside and asked to join in. The boys chuckled, as the victorious boy from the last encounter stood forward. His father watching on from Milo's room. The boy makes his move but Milo holds solid! A stunned silence from all when Milo's father shouts "NOW". Boom! Milo squeezes the boy up on to his shoulders and drops him to the floor. Stunned silence as Milo freezes in thought. The boy rubs dust from his eyes and looks up to put a hand out to Milo. Milo accepts and lifts the boy up to his feet. A new found respect grows in Milo's wrestling ability. All watching congratulate and cheer for Milo. Milo the champ is born.
Every childs dream is to become an Olympic Champion. So few make it but Milo is different. He has heart and hunger to be great. Each day Milo wakes up he picks up the maturing calf and walks around the city. Years on Milo's strength is becoming legendary. The calf is now a full grown bull and Milo is a man. Milo goes on to become the most powerful wrestler of Ancient Greek times. His career was built on over 25 years. In this time he won 6 Olympic championships and he dominated wrestling throughout his career.
His story teaches us about being strong on a daily basis. A big heart, face your fears, grow daily and become a champion of your time. Your legacy could out live thousands of years.
