Endless research strongly suggests fish could be one of the healthiest foods on the planet. Apparently Japan is the highest consumer of fish and they also have the 2nd highest life expectancy at almost 85 years young.
Fish is a great food to prevent ill health, maintain wellbeing and promotes your body and minds ability to function at a higher level. PREVENTION & PROMOTION!
LIVE HAPPIER WITH OMEGA 3'S
In New Zealand (25th highest life expectancy at 81 years young) 5.98 out of 100 people suffer with severe depression where as in Japan 0.12 out of a 100 suffer. Japan's fish consumption could be just a huge coincidence but I believe not! The brain is made up of 60% fat, mostly an Omega-3 fat called docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). It's purpose is to support cellular communication and when present in the right ratio, it results in happiness while enhancing learning and memory ability. Omega-3 fatty acids are polyunsaturated fatty acids that are thought to be beneficial for their anti-inflammatory properties. Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), are forms of omega-3 fatty acids. If our brains are low in these forms of Omega-3’s we may experience depression, anxiety and bi-polar disorder.
PROMOTE HEALTHY FUNCTION
Fish is high in vitamin D which can help ward off disease, promote bone health, and with the help of the omega-3s in fish, ward off cognitive decline. The University of Maryland Medical Center reports that DHA and EPA may be valuable in treating or preventing depression, rheumatoid arthritis, heart disease and other conditions.
BOOST BRAIN PERFORMANCE
High amounts of omega-3 fatty acids found in fish are vital for growth and development. The omega-3 fatty acid also known as docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) is especially important, because it accumulates in the developing brain and eye.
SLEEP QUALITY- LESS DISTURBANCE
A 2008 study in the Journal of Nutrition conducted by M. Lavialle and colleagues suggests that a diet low in Omega-3 fatty acids diminishes the melatonin rhythm, weakens the circadian clock functioning, and has a disturbing part to play in nocturnal sleep leaving you restless. How many more puns could I throw at you!? I'll let you sleep on that one!
BRAIN HEALTH- THE GREY MATTER
Grey matter is the major functional tissue in your brain, containing the neurons that process information, store memories and make you human.
Studies have shown that people who eat fish every week have more grey matter in the centers of the brain that regulate emotion and memory.
ON THAT NOTE...
I'll increase my fish intake on these notes. Perhaps if I had more fish in my diet I wouldn't have put diesel in my petrol car this morning! Yikes!
On a serious note I selfishly want to be around, healthy and active for as long as possible.
Of course lifestyle and other variables play their role but the food of life has a huge say in whether you pop your clocks too early! Fish every day to keep the grim reaper at bay!
IMPORTANT; Wild caught fish in a good healthy rich environment beats poor environment farm based fish. Fresh is best! Nature rules.
